Introducing Puppies to the Dog Park

Comments Off

Dog parks are a wonderful place that can be both relaxing and fun for you and your dog. However, before you introduce any puppies to the dog park there are a few steps you can take to make the process less stressful for yourself and the puppy. First, find a friend with a dog of nearly equal size to socialize your puppy with first. Dogs learn social behavior from being part of a pack, by separating litters at a young age we remove that crucial part of a dog’s social development. Let the dogs learn what interactions are acceptable when playing with friends. Be sure you give positive feedback for acceptable play and correct any undesirable actions. Next, you should find a time when your local dog park has only a few friendly dogs there. Take your dog on walks around the park so they can get used to the area and note the times that are less crowded and rowdy. When you have established a suitable time, you are ready to let your puppy take their first park visit. It is important to keep a watchful eye on your dog, especially the first few visits. Continue to reward good behavior and correct negative behavior, other owners and dogs will appreciate it. Also, always remember to bring any needed supplies, such as water (if the park doesn’t have a water source) and a ball to play fetch. By getting your dog prepared for the local dog park and following park rules you can make sure every visit is enjoyable and prevent being the dog/owner combo that others avoid.

Berghia Nudibranch Central

The answer!

I was taking care of my buddy’s saltwater aquarium while he was on vacation, and accidently caused a severe infestation of Aiptasia. After reading all about these predator anemones, I decided to purchase some Berghia Nudibranches. These little sea slugs eat Aiptasia only, and are a natural cure for an infestation.

I have about forty aiptasias in the tank right now. I read that for every one hundred gallons of water, you need at least eight Berghia Nudibranches. My buddy Scott’s tank is about two hundred gallons, so I bought sixteen Berghia, and a couple of extra just in case. I also read that the sea slugs will die once the infestation is gone. It is the cure I have been looking for. Hopefully, the infestation will be gone by the time my friend gets back. I will definitely let him know what happened, and how I got rid of the Aiptasia, in case he ever has another problem. Berghia Nudibranches are the answer!! Click here to read more about them.

She Doesn't Want to Get One

It is really hard to pass up a cute little animal in the window. I have been trying to get my wife to get one of those puppies for years now and I think that I might just have to bring one home myself. We already have one dog, but I think she needs to have a companion to play with. Both of us work and she really shouldnt be home alone. I wouldn’t want to have my family away all of the time. If I do bring one home, I am going to have to give her some kind of sob story about how the puppy was going to be put to sleep or something like that. I need a reason for her to resist telling me to bring it back. But, I have a feeling that the first time it licks her face she will be sold on keeping it.

Avoid Reckless Aggression in American Bulldogs

Comments Off

The background of American Bulldogs as guard dogs gives them the innate tendency to suspect people and animals especially those that are considered strangers. They are regarded as protectors of property, of people and even pets and livestock. In order to train your American Bulldog, it is necessary to socialize with the animal at a very young age and let the animal associate with lots of people and animals in the household. Let the dog experience a variety of positive experiences. This early stage of exposure to familiar people will enable him to intelligently discern between friends and enemies but also prevents aggression towards strangers. Once overcome by this reckless aggression, you are sure to win the dog’s heart and loyalty and you’re on your way towards training him to become the best guard dogs around. This breed has an excellent drive and energy but needs a lot of workout and exercise to make him even stronger.

Would you like to take your dog to “off-leash” walks at the park? Sure you do. But you have a big problem. He misbehaves and becomes uncontrollable whenever he’s off the leash. He jumps at strangers, starts digging dirt, chews everything he sees, and chases other animals.

If you want to stop your dog’s behavior problems and get him to listen to you anywhere you go, you got to learn how to train him. The Hands Off Dog Training program by professional dog trainer Chet Womach is a great resource for you. This program will give you all the tips, techniques and tools that you need to cure your dog’s bad behavior and teach him to obey your commands.

By using what the author calls markers and well-timed rewards, you can train your dog to be the dog you’ve always wanted to own. Then you can take him to parks, on the street, and just about anywhere without ever worrying that he’ll make a “mess.” You and your dog will have a happy time together.

Homemade Parrot Foraging Toys

Every bird and parrot owner should provide a good way for a bird to forage for food and treats. While there are many commercially available items that can be found in the stores there are also many household items that can make perfect parrot foraging toys. Occasionally I will buy a a foraging pinata or other similar item for my birds to shred. Items that would otherwise be thrown away can be recycled into foraging toys very easy. Paper tubes from paper towel rolls or toilet paper rolls make a great use for such a purpose. I like to take one of these cardboard rolls and put a palm nut or other tasty treat inside. Then I will crinkle up old newspaper and stuff the ends to keep the treat inside. My parrots love to shred cardboard and paper, especially when they know that a delicious item awaits them inside. Doing this not only will save you money but it will help to keep your birds active doing an activity that it would be doing in it’s wild habitat.
